Parking Lot
Pursued in the Best Buy parking lot.
The red car in front of me
slammed on it's brakes
for the tenth time.
Behind me, the blonde woman
in the forest green Ford Explorer
shook her fist, pulled close,
hugged my bumper in the narrow lane,
blocking me in.
The blonde jeered, reached
to unlock her door.
Abruptly the red car turned right
so I floored my Escort's gas pedal.
The blonde rebuckled her seat belt,
followed me in hot pursuit.
I watched her through my rear view mirror,
but the tinting on my windows
looked like wet metal
blurred in the heat.
I turned right, speeding
down a row of cars,
then right again down another aisle,
driving in circles.
She pursued for 3 more rows,
tires pealing, then gave up.
Victorious, but leary
of West Boca soccer moms
with aggressive tendencies,
I kept my guard,
looking for her in the blank tape aisle of Best Buy,
and near the video cassettes.
I hurried through the store
looking over my shoulder,
jumping at every blonde woman who passed.
I hid behind video game displays
and new CD releases,
waiting for gunshots to ring out
and a tennis shoed, tanned, polo shirted woman
wearing a diamond tennis bracelet
to brandish a gun at me, make me apologize
for cutting her off
